Intensification methods


The dosage for B-CAT depends on the amount and composition of the organic matter processed in the biogas plant. The usual dose for B-CAT is 2 – 4% of the daily volume of organic matter applied to the biogas plant’s fermenter.

Intensification of biogas production

In cooperation with SKANSKA, a.s. we offer a method for intensifying the decomposition of the organic substances used for biogas production. It is a biotechnology that enables the fermented biomass to be utilized at a greater efficiency and thus increase biogas production by using a biologically active biocatalyst solution (B-CAT).

B-CAT production

B-CAT is produced by fermenting a specific organic substrate in water under set process conditions (temperature, pressure, residence time). B-CAT is a colourless and odourless liquid. B-CAT is a mixture of enzymes and non-pathogenic microorganisms. B-CAT is a safe, hygienic dilution and has been approved for use by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic (valid for the EU). B-CAT production is continuous and takes place under set conditions.

B-CAT is manufactured in production facilities that are designed individually depending on the requisite output and location conditions. ABESS, s.r.o. provides the B-CAT production equipment, controls its operation and the quality of the final B-CAT solution.

Construction advantages

  • B-CAT accelerates and strengthens the biochemical processes during organic matter decomposition, it even enhances the degradability of organic substances that are not easy to break down, such as cellulose.
  • It intensifies the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose.
  • Better use of the biomass’ energy potential brings significant effects, namely higher decomposition efficiency of the organic substances, improved stability of the fermentation process and, in particular, higher biogas production.
  • The resulting effect of applying B-CAT in biogas plants is an increase in biogas production, usually by 5 – 15% compared to a conventional fermentation process.
  • B-CAT also reduces the production of odorous substances and their release to the air.

  • We then carry out a trial run to verify the method is effective in the particular biogas plant.
  • After assessing the test run results, there is a transition to permanent operation and the commercial delivery of the technology.
  • The method costs approximately 35% of the increase in the biogas plant’s economic efficiency.
